In the Programme area, the majority of ports are classified as small and medium-sized ports (SMSPs), which face even higher obstacles for starting their green transition due to lower financial capacities, human resources and political support compared to big ports. Nevertheless, they are affected the same by European environmental targets and legislations in the same capacity. Thus, it is necessary to support SMSPs in their green transition and their decarbonization strategies in the South Baltic Area. Therefore, the overall project objective is formulated plans to improve knowledge and capacities for decarbonisation measures in SMSPs of the South Baltic Area by equipping them with two solutions until the end of 2026 as response to the introduced challenge, which will be supported in showcasing hands-on pilots in SMSP areas (Port Electrification and Energy Twins), those are:
- Green Energy Harmonisation Toolbox for Small and Medium-Sized Ports)
- EU Regulation and Green Policy Compliance Roadmap of Green Transition for Small and Medium Sized Ports
In this domain, the project will make great contribution in SMSPs green transition with solutions offering high potential for adaptability to other SMSPs in the South Baltic area.
