Interreg Cooperation Day 2023: Perspectives from the South Baltic

21.09.2023

On 21 September every year, we celebrate the Interreg Cooperation Day, also known as “Interreg Day”. Interreg comes together to celebrate cooperation across borders, regions, rivers, mountains and even bureaucracies. But why do we celebrate cooperation?

The South Baltic area is a mix of cultures and economies that need to understand each other in order to reach their maximum potential. For this reason, the European Union encourages cooperation in different ways. One of them is through the cooperation programmes like ours; The Interreg South Baltic Programme, which allocates more than 80 million euros for our region to work together on common challenges such as innovation, digitalisation, decarbonisation, social inclusion, etc.

This celebration takes place through a plethora of events that highlight the successful initiatives of cooperation through Interreg programmes all around Europe. The events include indoor and outdoor activities as well as online events that everyone can join. The festivities also present a unique opportunity to remind our citizens in the South Baltic area of the positive impact that can emerge when citizens, authorities and institutions unite across borders in order to cooperate under common goals.
