2022 is the European Year of Youth!

23.05.2022

The European Parliament and the Council established 2022 as the European Year of Youth! It is a time to celebrate the post-pandemic period, to embrace with a new strength the future challenges for European society. Throughout this year, the European Commission will coordinate a range of activities together with the European Parliament, Member States, regional and local authorities, and youth organisations as well, to enrich young generations with new skills for their professional development, as well as increase youth civic engagement in the European society.

The new generations are the ones that will bring changes and benefit from the digital and green revolution put into action by the Next Generation EU. In this framework, the European Year of Youth will pursue four main objectives:

  • Overcoming the negative effects of the COVID-19 pandemic highlighting the new opportunities for young people coming from the green and digital transitions.
  • Supporting young people, especially those with fewer opportunities, to become active and engaged European citizens.
  • Promoting opportunities coming from the EU, national and regional authorities to young people.
  • Bringing a youth perspective in the EU policymaking at all levels, in line with the EU Youth Strategy 2019 – 2027.

The Joint Secretariat Interreg South Baltic will contribute to celebrating this European Year of Youth in its annual event in late September. One of the panel discussions of this event will be focused on the involvement of youth in the regional development and Interreg cooperation as the celebration of the European Year of Youth 2022 through finding a common language and vision. Among panelists, there will be representatives of the Euroregion Baltic Youth Board and Youth Councils created within the South Baltic Youth Core Group Networks project (SB YCGN), as well as the IVY volunteer from Joint Secretariat.

Moreover, on 23-25 May 2022, the INFORM EU conference takes place in La Valletta Malta. On this occasion, it was emphasised the role of youth in the future of the European Union. To follow the conference here.
